CB East Wins the BTL Fall League

CB East repeats as the Basic Training Lacrosse Fall League champs, taking home the Pete Ortale Memorial Trophy.  East beat a very good Boyertown team in their semifinal game.  In the finals, East outlasted a tough Penncrest team who upset Bishop Shanahan in their semifinal game.  Game recap notes coming soon.

Peter K. Ortale Trophy

The PKO Memorial Trophy is awarded each year to the BTL Fall League champion.  Pete was tragically taken on September 11th, 2001.  A warrior poet in the truest sense.  He was a 2 time High School All American midfielder who captained Penn Charter's 1983 state championship team.  He was also the captain of Duke University's lacrosse team when you could count on one hand the number of lacrosse players from PA playing Division 1 lacrosse.  He was the ultimate team player before there were travel teams and Inside Lacrosse player ranking lists and Instagram recruiting profiles.  He embodied what this league's mission seeks to reinforce; commitment to your high school team and teammates.

1 on 1 Goalie Training

Need to develop or retune your goalie play for recruiting events.  Whether a boy or girl goalie, a beginner or someone with experience looking to elevate their play,  BTL focuses on building and/or maintaining a strong foundation of core skill sets.  Foundation is everything.  Without it, goalies inevitably develop habits that can get more and more difficult to overcome as competetion gets better, faster and stronger.  With it, goalies can evolve and develop each season.  A strong foundation followed by consistent repetitions and commitment are the keys to success.

2024 WINTER INDOOR GOALIE TRAINING

If you wish to participate in the 2024 winter goalie training camp and have registered, please send an email to basictraininglax@comcast.net to coordinate time slots.

Training dates and times at The Phelps School indoor field house are TBD.    We do not do high volume training and have a limited number of spots.  If you'd like to secure a spot, early registration is available on this site.

Training is forecast to commence the second weekend of January, either 1/15 or 1/16, and run on the following weekends in January and February with the exception of the two holiday weekends (Prez and MLK).  Training will conclude with an all goalies outdoor session and tailgater the first weekend of March.

The 7 winter training sessions focus on preparing for the upcoming spring season by either introducing or refreshing sound fundamentals based on experience level.  Key areas of focus are as follows:

  • proper stance
  • proper positioning along the arc
  • feet attacking the shot line - "we explode to the shot...not step"
  • repetitive drilling of the above to foster muscle memory reflex
  • teaching of differing save techniques for inside shots vs outside shots
  • shots on the run
  • proper passing technique
  • talking from the goal as it pertains to being a "field general"
    • This skill set is the critical point of emphasis for BTL goalie training.  BTL's core lacrosse goalie philosophy is that a goalie with a high lacrosse IQ, that talks well and leads their defense can make more saves through excellent communication than with the stick.
